The astrological history in Europe and the Middle East are linked together as there was an influence of each other over time. It was in the middle of the 4th century BC, the Babylonian astrology is believed to have entered the western culture.

At the same time, it also entered Greek and Roman culture. It is from here, it exercised a strong hold on all other nations and groups in Egypt. This was in parallel with the rise of a genuine scientific phase of astronomy in Babylonia. This also weakened the hold that astrology had on the priests and the people.

Old faith declined in the Euphrates valley due to the advent of the Persians who belonged to the religion which differed entirely from the Babylonian-Assyrian polytheism.

The Chaldaean wisdom became popular among the Greeks and the Romans. This was the synonym of divination through the planets and stars and in the course of time it was known as a Chaldaean carrying with it frequently the suspicion of charlatanry and of more or less willful deception.
