The term “Varga” implies division and the Varga charts are the divisional charts, which refer to the unique method employed by the ancient seers to study various aspects of life.

Each rasi of 30 degrees is further subdivided and there are 16 divisional charts. As per the Maharishi Parashara the Varga division is as follows.

Rashi D-1 is the varga of 30º to study all aspects of life such as the physical matters, the body and all the general aspects.

Hora D-2 is the varga to study the wealth aspects and is one-half of a sign.
 
Drekkana D-3 is the varga to study the siblings, and the nature and is one third of a sign.

Chaturthamsa D-4 is the varga to study the fortune and the property and is one fourth of a sign.

Saptamsa D-7 is the varga to the children or the Progeny and is one seventh of a sign.

Navamsa D-9 is the varga to the wife, the dharma and the relationships and is one ninth of a sign.
 
Dasamsa D-10 is the varga to study the actions in society and profession and is one tenth of a sign.

Dwadasamsa D-12 is the varga to the parents and is one twelveth of a sign.

Shodasamsa D-16 is the varga to study the vehicles, the travelling and the comforts and is one sixteenth of a sign.

Vimsamsa D-20 is the varga to study the spiritual pursuits and is one twentieth of a sign.

ChaturVimsamsa D-24 is the varga to study the education, the learning and the knowledge and is one twenty fourth of a sign.

SaptaVimsamsa D-27 is the varga to study the strengths and the weakness and is one twenty seventh of a sign.

Trimsamsa: D-30 is the varga to study the evils, the failure, and the bad luck and is one thirtieth of a sign.

KhaVedamsa D-40 is the varga to study the maternal legacy and is one fortieth of a sign.
 
AkshaVedamsa D-45 is the varga to study the paternal legacy and is one forty fifth of a sign.

Shastiamsa D-60 is the varga to study the past birth or the Karma and is one sixtieth of a sign.

There are four more divisional charts as explained by Maharishi Jaimini which are as follows.


Panchamsa D-5 for the fame and the power

Shasthamsa D-6 for the health

Ashtamsa D8 for the unexpected troubles

EkaDasamsa or Rudramsa D-11 for the death and the destruction
