Horoscopic Astrology
The form of astrology which uses a horoscope or chart to gain information from the position of cosmic bodies is referred to as the horoscopic astrology.
It is believed that the horoscopic astrology was developed in the Mediterranean region mainly in Hellenistic Egypt around late 2nd or early 1st century BC. In order to interpret the inherent meaning underlying the alignment of the planets at specific moments, the horoscopic astrology was mainly concerned with the horoscopes cast for those moments in time.
It has many defining characteristics which makes it distinct from other traditions. The most important among them is the computation of the degree of the Eastern horizon rising against the backdrop of the ecliptic at the specific moment under examination, known as the ascendant.
According to the ancient Hellenistic astrology, the ascendant demarcated the first celestial house of a chart. In Greek, the ascendant was referred to as the horoskopos, denoting the diagram of the heavens. It is from this word the term horoscope is derived.
It is believed that any system of astrology which does not utilize the ascendant will not fall under the category of horoscopic astrology.
Mainly, the Horoscopic astrology deals with the practice of casting astrological charts reflecting the apparent positions of a variety of celestial bodies and points from the perspective of the individual at any given moment in time.
The horoscopic astrology is based on the idea that the placement of the planets at any given moment in time reflects the nature of that moment and especially anything which is born at that moment.
Later, the same can be analyzed using the chart and a variety of rules for interpreting the language or the symbols used. The horoscopic astrology helps in analyzing the birth charts of individuals to understand the character, the psychological traits and to some extent destiny.
