The Palmistry is an ancient intuitive art having many systems of interpretation. It is the art of characterization and foretelling the future by reading the features of the palm.

It can be learnt easily just by understanding certain basics of symbolism which is represented by the lines running across the palm, the mounts of the palm and the structure of the fingers.

The palmistry is also known as chiromancy or cheiromancy which is derived from the Greek word “cheir manteia” meaning hand divination. The other names of the palmistry are the palm reading, the chirology and the hand analysis. The practice of the palmistry is often referred as the pseudoscience.

The people practicing the palmistry are referred to as the palmists or the chiromancers or the palm readers or the chirologists. With numerous cultural variations, the palmistry is popular throughout the world.

The origin of modern palmistry is attributed to the Roman fortune tellers and Indian mystics. But now the palmistry combines the traditional predictive techniques with psychology, holistic healing, and alternative methods of divination.

Even though there are many important studies made in the medical journals about the palmistry, it is still considered as the science in infancy form. This is mainly due to the conflicting interpretations and contradictions about various lines and palm features by different schools of palmistry.

The palmistry deals with the proportion, the symmetry and the distortions of what would be considered to be a perfectly formed hand.

Accordingly, the hand is divided into three different regions which are as follows.

the fingers representing the mind and the higher self
the middle of the palm representing the day-to-day life and the conscious mind
the lower half of the hand representing primal instincts, health and basic drives of the subconscious
