Approach of Various Religions on Astrology

The astrology was the foundation of many ancient faiths such as the Egyptian, the Babylonian, the Greek, the Roman, the Zoroastrian, the Mithraism, the Mayan, the Aztec, the Inca and the Druids.

The identification of planets and their effects were curiously observed by many religions.

Even the ancient World religions of today such as the Hinduism, the Christianity, the Islam, the Buddhism, and the Tao have shown various approaches to the astrology. Some of them are given below.

Approach of Hindu Religion on Astrology

The Vedic Astrology or the Indian Astrology or the Hindu astrology or the Jyotish or the science of light is a system which originated in ancient India. It was documented by many sages in the Vedic scriptures.

It deals with astral light patterns that are thought to determine our destiny. Through centuries, countless number of saints, scholars and sages have studied and practiced the sacred science of astrology.

Most popular among them are Parashara, Rishi Vasishta, and Veda Vyasa. The approach of Vedic astrology is based on the Karma which is determined by a predestined cosmic design.

It says that every person is a soul incarnating in a body at a very specific time and place, and his life is a reflection of the greater whole into which he is born just as flowers bloom at certain times, when all conditions are perfectly congenial.
The approach of the Vedic astrology helps to discover the underlying unity of existence, the cosmic connection between the macrocosm and the microcosm. It opens the doorway to mystical awakening, and Self-knowledge.

Approach of Christian Religion on Astrology

Even though there is nothing called the Christian astrology, the religion of Christianity itself begins with the signs in the heavens and the visit of wise men to the child, Christ.

Though, the origin of Hebrew astrology must be traced to the Jewish exile in Babylon, it is popularly attributed to Abraham or Noah.

The influence of biblical figures like Daniel, who had access to the pagan wisdom, or Ezekiel whose vision of the four creatures around the throne, has profound relations to the astrology of the elements and the four fixed signs.

Approach of Islam on Astrology

The Islamic religion identifies astrology as the scientific study of stars for determining and fixing time division such as months and seasons and directions.

The Allah has informed the purpose of the stars as the guide mankind in the right path and to drive away evil satanic forces that might disrupt one life in this world.

It is mentioned in several verses of the Holy Quran that the Allah has asked and encouraged the mankind to observe and understand his creation including the heaven, the stars, and the moon to know his signs, supreme might, glory and greatness.
The influence of planets and stars in connection with Pharaoh can be found in the Holy Quran.
