Astrology and Gems, Birthstones

The stars through their movements are believed to constantly emit positive and negative magnetic vibrations.

Vedic Astrology deals with the use of many remedial agents which help to protect the body and the mind. It is known for years that certain gemstones, metals, and plants have a positive effect on the body and the mind by nullifying or mitigating the harmful influences of the stars.

The Astrological Gem Stone Therapy is the science which deals with the use of astrology gems and stones for medicinal and astrological purposes.

The “Brihat Samhita” by Varahamihir reveals that a gem having a good luster, pure and clean colour with no flaws ensures good luck and protection. But it also warns that gem stones with flaws will bring disaster.

Swami Sri Yukteswar, in the Autobiography of a Yogi, written by Paramahansa Yogananda, has mentioned that the faultless gems of not less than two carats, worn in contact with the skin, are the most beneficial for astrological purposes.

According to the Rig Veda, the use of seven gems or sapta ratna is believed to capture the visible spectrum in the rays of the sun. It is also believed that the gems behave like the cosmic filters by disallowing the particular vibrations that lead to harmful effects.

The gem stone therapy is based on the long term use and the short term use. The gem stones for the long term or the life time use are referred as the fortune stones and those for the short term or the temporary use are referred to as the problem area stones.

The gemstones are recommended mainly based on the horoscope of a person. According to Vedic Astrology, the gemstones are classified into three types as follows.

Panch Ratna (Five gems)
Sapta Ratna (Seven gems)
Nav Ratna (Nine gems)
